Over 50-75% of women with some glucose in the urine during pregnancy are normal

Over 90% of babies lie in the vertical direction (Longitudinal lie), and the head facing towards the pelvis (cephalic presentation

In about 12-15% of women, breaking of waters (drainage of liquor) occurs as the first sign of labour.

Prolong labour occurs in about 7.5% of all labours and obviously common in first timers.

In well managed labours,over 75-80% of women should deliver their babies without having perineal tears or episiotomies.

Research tends to suggest that the caloric (energy) content of breast milk is good enough to sustain a newborn for the first 12months of life without additional supplement.

1 in 20 women may develop incontinence of flatus following vaginal delivery

Statistics tend to suggest that about 5-20% of women suffer from post-natal depression

Puerperal psychosis occurs in 0.8% of women, and involves schizophrenic or manic depressive illness. When there has been a previous episode, recurrence rate may be as high as 25-50 percent

Cerebral palsy: is described as abnormalities of posture and or movement that occurs when there is a permanent but non progressive injury to the immature brain. It occurs in about 1 in 450 deliveries.

Neural tube defect affects about 1 in 400 children.

Heart defect occurs in about 1 in 120 live births.
